The college Youth Red Cross (YRC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) jointly conducted a voluntary “Blood Donation Camp” on 18th Sept. 2014 in the college auditorium. All the students, faculty and staff members participated voluntarily in the camp. In total 18 units of blood were collected. This camp helped the students in getting awareness about their social responsibilities and showed enthusiastic participation for the same. The camp started at 11am and continued till 2pm. The camp was organized under the supervision of Dr N. K. Mishra from Dhenkanal Head Quarter Hospital, alongwith Mr Biranchi Pany, vice chairman of District Red Cross Society, Dhenkanal and other supporting staff from Dhenkanal Head Quarter Hospital.
The inaugural function started at 10am in the college auditorium. The YRC counselor Swati S. Pradhan, Jr. Lecturer in Physics hosted the event. The function commenced with a motivational speech by Mr Biranchi Pany. He spoke about the necessity of blood donation. Dr N. K. Mishra gave an extensive speech on blood donation and its clinical aspects. Dr Arpita Sabath, Principal motivated the participants with her inspiring words. Dr. Deepak Sahu, Jr. Lecturer in Botany presented the vote of thanks.
The blood donation camp started with Miss Sagarika Panda, +3 IIIrd yr Arts as the first participant. Eighteen students and some of the faculty members also participated, after a checkup and approval by the medical team. The hemoglobin content of the blood donors was also estimated by the medical team. Student volunteers under the guidance of YRC and NSS members provided the donors with refreshments, glucose, sweets and fruits. The blood donors received a “Blood Donation Card” and a “Certificate of Appreciation/ Recognition.”
