The United Nations International Youth Day was celebrated on 12th Aug. 2014 in the college auditorium. The programme was attended by all the staff members and all the students of +2 and +3 classes. The event was organized by Smt. Razia Sultan, Reader in History and Dr. Bineeta Acharya, Reader in Psychology.
The welcome address and an introductory speech were presented by Miss Leena Gantayat, Jr. Lecturer in Zoology. She spoke on “Youth and Mental Health” the theme of IYD 2014 as proclaimed earlier by the United Nations.
Dr. Amiya Rath, Reader in History, addressed the students as the chief speaker. He motivated the students on the significance of observing IYD 2014.
His speech was followed by Subhrakant Pani, Jr. Lecturer in Odia. He emphasized on the role of youth in building the nation. Smt. Alita Minz, Jr. Lecturer in Home Science spoke on the role of women in raising awareness on overcoming social and mental stigma and discriminations. Dr. Deepak Kumar Sahu, Jr. Lecturer in Botany, signified on the need of bringing youth issues to the attention of the international community and to celebrate the potentials of youth as partners in the global society.
Students of +2 and+3 classes, Amrita Mishra, Rajlaxmi Jena, Sangeeta Sahoo, Kiran Kumari Sahoo and Sanam Sahoo presented a cultural event on the traditional dances of India.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks presented by Manisha Bhardwaj, a student of +2 IInd yr, Science.
